CHAPTER 13
VALENCIAâS MVP
After an excellent Euro 2008, David was a wanted man. Europeâs biggest clubs tried their best to sign him over the summer, but Valencia kept saying no.
âWe wonât sell David Silva and David Villa for less than £135 million!â the club announced firmly.
£135 million? You could buy a whole team of talented footballers for that money! No-one was prepared to pay the fee, so Valenciaâs star players were going nowhere.
âNever mind,â David Silva thought to himself. He was still only twenty-three and he wasnât the type of person who got angry and asked for a transfer. Instead, he just got on with his job. He wanted to win lots more trophies, and hopefully he could do that at Valencia.
Unfortunately, however, David didnât play for months because of a bad ankle injury. It was so frustrating to sit and watch and wait. In the end, his season only really started in January!
âRight, Iâm ready to make up for lost time,â he told Juan ahead of their match against Atlético Madrid.
David was desperate to get back to his best as soon as possible. As Miguel dribbled down the right wing, he sprinted through the middle, calling out for the ball.
âIâm here! Pass it!â
Davidâs first touch was a little rusty, but he still managed to poke the ball past the keeper.
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It felt so good to be back! David stood in front of the Valencia fans and blew kisses to them all.
By the second-half, Davidâs first touch was as dazzling as normal again. He controlled JoaquÃnâs pass and fired a spectacular long-range shot right into the top corner.
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
âMan, we really missed you and your magic!â David Villa shouted, jumping on his strike partnerâs back.
David Silva certainly wasnât tiptoeing his way back into action. He didnât have time for that. He set up goals against AlmerÃa, then Málaga, then Getafe and then Sporting Gijón, and he still had his two favourites opponents to come.
Barcelona and Real Madrid. They were two of the many clubs that had tried to buy him after Euro 2008, but they hadnât tried hard enough. Maybe he needed to remind them what a big-game player he wasâ¦
Against Barcelona, David curled in a dangerous corner and Hedwiges Maduro bundled it in. 1â1!
And against Real Madrid, David skipped between three defenders and then squeezed a shot past his Spanish teammate, Iker. 2â0!
Goooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Valencia fans cheered and cheered for their little magician. When they needed a hero, they knew that they could rely on David.
âIf only I hadnât got injured,â he discussed with Ranzel during the summer. âThat could have been my best season yet!â
David was soon a wanted man once more. Valencia had big debts to pay and it looked like they might have to sell their best players.
âWeâll give you a great offer for Silva!â Liverpool announced. They seemed to be leading the long race to sign him because Eduardo Macià , the man who had first scouted David for Valencia, was now working there.
âSo will we!â said Juventus.
